COVID-19 Announcement
We are now accepting applications for school terms beginning in 2023. Since the onset of COVID-19, we put Trek to Teach-organized journeys to Nepal on hold and focused on supported the communities that we serve. We are thrilled to begin training and preparing teachers to travel to Nepal again. |
We are trek to teach.
Together, we share a passion for fostering education in rural Nepali villages, alongside a love for trekking in the breathtaking Himalayan mountain range. We teach in Nepal, we trek in Nepal, thus the "Trek to Teach" moniker.
As an organization, we put our passion into action. We aim to empower Nepali students.
If you share our goals and interests, please apply to teach with us and share in the same life-changing experiences that we hold so dearly. Our teachers are the lifeblood of our organization. We also invite you to connect with us on social media and read on!

Teaching in nepal
First and foremost, we train fluent English speakers and place them in primary and secondary schools that we're partnered with in the Himalayas. The students who live here crave quality, creative instruction, and will benefit from passionate teachers.
Our teachers are in the classroom 5-6 days a week, teaching English and other subjects they express interest in. For our past teachers, the time spent with students is unanimously the most impactful aspect of their time in Nepal. Read more here: Teaching in Nepal!

Trekking in nepal
While exploration comes second to our main mission, the world-famous Himalayan mountains provide a jaw-dropping setting in which our teachers find a deep sense of tranquility available few other places in the world!
Our partnered schools are located directly off of the Annapurna Circuit, a popular trekking route for foreigners. Our teachers trek the Poon Hill loop before arriving to their school, both for the enjoyment of being surrounded by natural wonders and also to understand what many Nepali students in this region must do to get to school each day. Teachers consistently report their Nepali trekking experience as one of the memorable aspects of their entire trip!

A Nepali Cultural experience
In addition to time in the classroom, our teachers have the opportunity to gain a robust cultural experience in our partnered villages. Teachers live at a local Nepali guest house where they become part of the family for the duration of the program. Helping their host family cook and take care of the guest house are just a few of the opportunities that make this Nepali cultural experience so unique.
Some host families speak English better than others, and some only know a few English words. Our teachers are able to navigate language barriers by learning bits of Nepali and communicating through a mutual love of food and laughter. Our teachers have found creative means of joining the community, such as through a common love for sports.
We encourage our teachers to dive head first into Nepali food, language, and customs!

Community projects in nepal
Providing quality English education requires a safe and structurally-sound school facility. Before the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2015, we were working on small projects with our schools to add water fountains, electrical wiring, and providing benches and doors. When one of the school building in Kliyu was demolished in 2015, re-construction became a major priority.
Kliyu's Shree Phumrokhu Baraha Secondary School Building:
Kliyu’s school and surrounding area were dramatically changed overnight as the students’ play area was transformed into a pile of large boulders from their fallen school building. TTT partnered with MyTEFL and Kliyu locals to raise money and complete the construction of a multipurpose school hall that can be used for classes and community meetings. Here are the full blog posts.

Trek to Teach has completed a number of local service projects in partnership with like-minded organizations such as MyTEFL. If you are interested in partnering, please send us an email at [email protected]. We appreciate any and all donations to help us continue our work.
